I discovered the power of catalysts in my life-and love to have a chat, and to share-so what better name for my soon-to-be-published book than CATALYSTS and CONVERSATION!
Here is an excerpt from CATALYSTS and CONVERSATION:
‘A little learning is a dangerous thing;
drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring:
there shallow draughts intoxicate the brain,
and drinking largely sobers us again.’
Alexander Pope
I Am Not Fickle, Just Because I’m A Gemini!
An important catalyst was generated indirectly because of my two daughters. They are both Cancerians and I am a Gemini. Some very vocal people told me that my daughters would be good home makers because they were Cancerians. And they said that I was just talkative and flighty because I’m a Gemini.
Well, this was my catalyst to start delving into astrology for I felt I was quite a nurturing type. This astrology thing must be wrong! Why, I had the patience to sit and talk to anyone about their problems, or to encourage them, yet my daughters were both too fidgety to sit and listen for very long. They loved to be on the move. And this was fine. It was just so darn annoying to me that some people thought I was not the nurturing type, just because I was a Gemini. I knew differently!
I was determined to find out more about this astrology thing. And it was later, through this very medium that I found that it is only by having challenges- or catalysts- in our lives that we build the momentum to help us move forward. Challenges have within them the opportunity to move us forward.
Have you ever had something annoy you so much that you just had to do something to change the situation? Well, that’s what started my interest in astrology.
It was good that I knew my exact time of birth, so I had a well-known astrologer do up a personal chart for me. And there it was in black and white!
I AM a nurturing type because I have two planets in the nurturing sign of Cancer. I don’t walk like an Egyptian, but I do love like a Cancerian! I have the love planet Venus in Cancer, so I give love in a nurturing way. And I do communicate in a nurturing way- that’s why I love writing this book to share my stories with you- because I have Mercury, the communication planet, in the nurturing sign of Cancer, at my time of birth.
I discovered that both my Cancerian daughters have Venus- how they give love- in Gemini- and that’s why they love to flit around! This placement of Venus in their charts makes it hard for them to sit still, just like a Gemini. They are likely to show their love by taking their family to visit places. And neither is right nor wrong, it’s just how it is. We are all so very multi-faceted.
Now when someone says, ‘Ohh, you’re a Gemini,’ I can say, ‘Yes I am, and I’m so much more- and you, too, are so much more than your sun sign!’ It was many more years before I discovered that everything has two sides.
I might have been like a nurturing Cancerian, but I also had the other side of the coin- the negative- and would hide like a little crab – the symbol of Cancer- whenever I was overwhelmed by something. Everything is revealed to us when we are ready to receive the information, though. It is always there for us to find, when we are ready.
And delving into astrology made me understand how important it is for our emotional well being, not to neglect the different aspects of our personalities. Just like it’s important for our physical health to exercise each part of our bodies.
Why, I’m sure you would think it strange if I said you are just your face, or hands or feet. Yet this is what happens if we think we are just a Gemini, or just a Cancerian or just an Aquarian and so on. We are all so much more. And I discovered that we need to exercise–to use- each part of our natures-our personalities and talents- to be truly happy and content.
It had been so very obvious to me, as a mother, that both my daughters liked to flitter while I was happy to sit and talk and nurture. Gemini is my sun sign, though, and that part of my nature comes out in my love of expression.
And I noticed that every poem, story or lyric I wrote was done in such a way that someone, somewhere, could get something out of it. I realised I wrote in a sort of universal style. It dawned on me that this came from another part of my horoscope.
I have the moon in Aquarius and therefore my emotions are felt in a universal way- I like justice for the whole, and not just the individual. Astrology was to play a more important role in my life, as time went on. But I will tell you about those catalysts later.
The part of my nature that is Gemini likes to have fun while we learn, so I want to make your experience of this book as entertaining as possible. For now, I will leave you with the thought that my discovery of many parts of astrology showed me that the different parts of our natures need to be exercised, like the different parts of our bodies. And I found when we do this, when we give expression to our whole nature, contentment follows.
It is because of my Aquarian moon that I have written short profiles for each of the 366 birthdates, at the end of this book. That combined with my Gemini love of expression, and my Cancerian love of nurturing, too, of course! I love to give something personal to everyone, and was pleased to be able to do this.
From my study of numerology, I discovered my birth numbers do indeed correspond with my personality in astrology, and is a quicker way to have an overview of a person’s potentials.
I know that I am happy when I express myself in an uplifting way. And I love to influence others by encouraging them to follow their passions. And the variety I need comes in the form of the different ways I love to express myself. Writing lyrics, books, poems and movie scripts, are just some ways I help satisfy this part of my nature.
On the next page are a few of my potentials from my date and month of birth. Anyone born on the same day and month, of any year, has the same potential. But only they will know what their passions and interests are, though. It could be with photography, fashion, family, design, social work or gardening to name a few possibilities. It is up to us to know our passions.
Why not check your day and month at the end of the book, to see if you are ‘exercising’ the positive of just some of your potentials! Are you being constructive with your gifts? If not, you can change this at any time. It’s all up to you.
My birthday, and some of my gifts!
30th May
People born on this date, and working to their potential, are really expressive and uplifting and influence in a ‘versatile’ kind of way!
In the negative-not working to potential-the following happens:
‘expressive and uplifting’ become ‘critical and complaining.’
‘influence’ becomes ‘abuse power’.
‘versatile‘ becomes ‘scattered and bluffing.’
Some famous people born on this date are:
Wynonna Judd, country singer.
Benny Goodman, bandleader.
Mel Blanc, voice of cartoon characters like Bugs Bunny.
Some catalysts are bigger than others as they have greater effects on our lives. And the results we get from any catalyst depend on what we do. If we do nothing, we get nothing different. If we do something constructive, to fix the situation, then we can get positive change. If we react and do something destructive to try to counteract the same kind of force coming at us, well, we’re likely to get something else destructive.
Yet, that which doesn’t kill us really can make us stronger. I think someone who didn’t use one of their large catalysts constructively must have written this! And it is true. If we do survive, then we can learn and move on to something better.
And many of us go on to help others, because we want them to do it quicker than we did. Sometimes we can help, just by letting others know that it is never too late to do something different!
We are all catalysts, sometimes without even knowing and sometimes it is obvious, for we are told we are. An example is in my next little story.
( and for that one you will need to read the book!
)

I love numbers.
Take maths for example . . if you add 2 plus 9 plus 1 plus 1 plus 9 plus 5 plus 4 . . .we get the number 31 and it always remains that way. Numbers here are objective . . . there is nothing subjective about numbers . . . . or is there?
If you take those same numbers in numerology . . . a person born on the 29th January 1954, we get to 31, also . . . when we add these same numbers across . . . but here is where the subjectivity comes in.
Is the person living in the positive or negative meaning of all of these numbers going across . . . . and also the total 31/4 destiny number?
As an example, take the number 29 of the day number above. If a person is living in the positive energy of this master number then they will be highly idealistic and inspirational. If a person is in the negative energy of this number they may be too sensitive and emotional.
Our numbers show us what choices we have . . . when we are living in the positive/ constructive or negative/destructive.
What numbers cannot tell us is what interests the person will have. Will it be in working with children, photography, health, finance, building, sailing, gardening, writing etc. etc. etc. . .. or maybe a combination of a lot of areas.
This is just a little of why I love numbers . . . and one of my dreams is that kids . . . and anyone who ever was a kid:) . . . will see how much fun numbers can be . . as well as a very practical way for us to get to know ourselves . … and others!
Until next time,

LAURI’S BLOG:
Have you ever thought how wonderful it is to have choices?
I have.
Just the other day after I had finished my daily early morning ritual of saying a great big ‘ thank you’ for all the wonderful things in my life.
Things like my family, friends, warm bed, hot and cold running water, washing machine, clothes dryer, food, good health, transport to get me to work, the job I have that pays the bills, while I am working towards getting one in my passion. Ohhh and the flushing toilet . … and and and!!!
It was after I had done this regular exercise, to remind me all that I have to be grateful for and sets me up for a whinge free day . . that I thought how marvellous it is that we have so many choices.
Choices like we can pay thousands of dollars to learn how to meditate, or we can just sit or lie down and close our eyes, listen to our breathing and relax, for no monetary outlay at all!!
Or we can go to the gym and pay to use the exercise equipment and be with others, or we can just go for a walk by ourselves out in nature, or exercise in front of the TV or DVD at home. Choices!
How great they are! And how lucky we are to live in a country where we have these choices. Another ‘thing’ I can include on my daily gratitude list!
Until next time,
