Making the first move
Up the hill I walked and,
Ten metres from the top,
I stopped, looked up,
And there he was
Jogging past
He smiled first-
That smile
I had smiled first
So many times before
At those passing by
Who were unafraid
to look me in the eye-
The smile that says
I acknowledge
Your humanity-
You are just like me
With talents, dreams,
Trials and tribulations-
Along with the many elations-
And
I continued up the hill
Even more joyful than before
For
Literally I was shown
What I have always known-
That to make the first move
Makes the other feel
Accepted
And so very real.
