From School and Beyond- My Story In Rhyme- The book is Much Longer!

When I was very young
I used to sing and dance
Then, out of the blue-
as if by chance-
my father died,
And this opened
another door
and my life was
so very different
from before-
I still went to school,
yet in the classroom
 I was so very quiet-
I didn’t talk
And couldn’t wait
until the bell, to ramble on-
and on and on!-
 Just so I couldn’t think
about how
I had lost
that dad of mine-
Well,
I guess
that’s what happened-
I was only nine!
Then, just before grade
 ten was over,
I finished school-
got a job-
 I was so in clover!
And still I rambled on-
and on and on-
and did some things
we shall not dwell upon!
 At age 21 I had a child-
no man in sight-
But hey,
I was so beguiled
by this little bundle-
she changed my life!
 Seven years went by
and,
 as is the case,
when we don’t make a choice
Fate steps in 
To be our voice -
I had to move
to work in another town-
I left my daughter with my mum-
I had to settle,
 before she came down-
A year later I was married
and my daughter was
where she needed to be -
she was back with me–
And, of the next twelve years,
all I will say
 is
three more little souls came my way-
such tremendous gain-
wiping away any tears, any pain-
Then, in 1990,
with the help of my
 twenty-one year old first born-
the kids and I
escaped from
our situation forlorn
And this opened
another door,
again
so very different
from before-
I took up studying-
at age 42,
I thought it the thing to do-
to finally learn a thing or two!
In 1998 I hadn’t
made another choice
so
Fate once more
became my voice-
I went to Sydney
and it was here
I finally
moved into top gear
I got a job
after twenty-one years
out of the paid workforce-
 It was a source
so enlightening!-
people everywhere
complaining,
which could have been
so very frightening,
if I had not wanted to help so much-
to give them all my guiding touch!-
offering advice galore
before
being told, in no uncertain terms,
to butt out!-
And this left me in no doubt
that being in the mainstream workforce
 was a gauge for me to know-
to show-
 just how far
the kids and I had come
For,
we didn’t whinge- we didn’t whine-
we just got on,
we got it done
and all was fine-
And then I did what,
over the years,
I had learned
to do-
the negative
was changed
into a positive,
becoming something
entirely new!
 And so this is how it came to be
that I expanded my love of writing,
-from a published poet in 1989-
hey, I am not skiting,
just stating facts here!-
to where
I have written books
ready and waiting to be published-
And, when I look
at what I’ve learned so far,
the one thing
that I want to mention-
bring to your attention!-
for it stands
above the rest-
maybe even
some ultimate test?-
Is
the importance of taking the time
to delve-
 to really get to know- and like!- ourselves-
Then we can find
what it is we really need-
Indeed!-
It truly is not selfish-
but sets an example for all
to know that they, too, are gems
and deserve
what is best for them-
For, when all is said and done,
YOU are the only one
who will be with you
every second-
of every minute of every day!-
And I must say
I cannot think of anything worse
than being locked up with someone-
forever!-
who,
instead of loving,
you curse!
Now, moving on with my story!-
 My kids are all so very independent-
all outstanding - in their glory-
in their own fields,
And I have come full circle-
 I sing and dance again-
just like way back when-
And,
wouldn’t you just know it!-
also I have discovered
 the secret of eternal youth,
which I gladly share with you -
so, if you like, you can have it too!
When I think of age,
I compare myself to the Universe-
And I know my life has but begun-
‘Whatever human age’ versus billions-
THAT’S HOW TO BE FOREVER YOUNG!
